Municipal Initiatives

The CaGBC’s municipal program delivers resources and training to support the efforts of municipal leaders and decisions makers in meeting local sustainability targets.

High-performance buildings use less energy than traditional buildings, increase water use efficiency and provide healthy interior spaces. Greening their own projects provide municipalities with on-the-ground examples on how communities can address climate change and other important sustainability issues. Green buildings realize significant regional and global environmental benefits and reduce demand on infrastructure services with associated savings from deferred investments in future capital projects.

The CaGBC is supporting two key activities of the public sector green building activities: policy development and policy implementation. The Policy Development Toolkit for Municipalities (or “CaGBC Municipal Green Building Toolkit”) and the From Policy to Practice for the Public Sector are the first two CaGBC offerings tailored for municipalities.
